So do you remember that funny military coup video from Myanmar (or Burma or Myanmar) that went viral because there was a lady doing yoga and she was totally oblivious?
Imagine now, you’re that lady doing yoga. Breathe in, breathe out. Good.
There are currently 2 US citizens being held at “Insein” prison in Yangon, Myanmar. They are all journalists. All of them are there for being journalists. It has now been over one week since they have been arrested and though the US State Department is “pressing that country’s military government(Junta) for their immediate release,” it doesn’t really seem to be working given it’s been a whole week since then.
One of the American Journalists, Danny Fenster, is getting a good amount of press right now. With a name like Danny Fenster American Journalist who wouldn’t right? Han Thar Nyein, “Juz a dude in the crowd!!” who was also detained alongside Danny and their fellow journalist, Nathan Maung (the other US citizen). Nathan is getting some work in the crowd, CPJ & this place got him and Hanthar so that’s good.
What’s important here is that there are many journalists, not just Americans being detained by guys wearing armor that plead allegiance to a guy that doesn’t wear armor he just wears this lame little earpiece thing and these gold rimmed glasses with this hair that looks like it’s about to crust off. Like he’s one laugh away from it all falling apart. Ohmygod also, he wears the ugliest shirts. Like when he’s with other leaders he just looks like another guy. Even that mafia guy Narendra Modi looked better.
As of now, the US has only imposed sanctions which is really just like giving someone a CVS receipt as an intimidation tactic. It just doesn’t really seem like sanctions will be enough what with the Thai State not following the rules and it’s gettin crazy in the streets, or excuse me “insein.” It is looking terrible down there, my heart truly is so broken looking at these pictures and the footage. It’s just fucked up man. Like imagine you’re just 21 and you wanna be a game designer and you’re chillin at the arcade or somethin and then a fuckin military coup upsets your entire town and then you gotta go and try to spread the word because your elected leader is KIDNAPPED and maybe the US can help so you try to get some photos for the tweet and you’re arrested. Then they throw you in this fuckin place called the “Insein” prison, like I mean come on. That’s crazy!
Ya know the subject of reincarnation has come up between my friends and I a lot recently and I think what if I were reincarnated as someone who grew up in this town of Myanmar, I might have the same interests. I might even have the same proclivity to justice, maybe I wanna be a journalist there. Nope, I’m thrown in INSEIN PRISON!!! AND THE US DEPARTMENT “VIRTUALLY VISITS”
“The State Department statement said consular officers from the U.S. Embassy in Yangon had paid a virtual visit to Maung on Monday but so far have not been granted access to Fenster.”
